Bungalows at Sandy Bank Bay, St. Kitts – West Indies. The architecture for all bungalows is by John Haley, AIA at the time director of Architecture at Kiawah Partners in Charleston, SC. The project is part of Christophe Harbour development on the Southern peninsula of St. Kitts. It features four beachside bungalows and 10 hillside bungalows. Each bungalow has private infinity edge pool facing the Atlantic Ocean. The pool structure with retaining walls and bungalow foundations are made of reinforced concrete. The bungalow walls are 8×10 wood logs. The bungalow roof is exposed wood frame structure that extends over porch adjacent to the pool deck. The project is located on a major hurricane path and very active seismic region of the Caribbean. The wind design in particular presented serious challenges for the structural engineer especially for the hillside bungalows where the topographic effect increased the design wind pressures significantly. The project is permitted and construction is expected to begin soon.
